Description

The Fire Life Safety (FLS) Discipline Lead will be responsible for system engineering of FLS in accordance with our mission of “Improving the quality of life by Rethinking Infrastructure”. The ideal candidate will independently develop and manage FLS designs in accordance with codes, standards, and project specifications while ensuring client needs are met. Strong communication skills are essential for collaboration with both internal and external team members and clients throughout the design process.

Essential Functions

  • Management and Oversight of Fire/Life Safety staff.
  • Management, Oversight, Reporting, and Accountability for Project Scope, Schedule, and Budget.
  • Project Cost Management including monitoring and reporting on financial performance, participating in Monthly Billing Review Meetings, addressing project’s Aged Receivables, and maximizing project profitability through appropriate budgeting, resource utilization, and cost control procedures.
  • Project Time Management including planning, organizing, monitoring, coordinating, and administering work on projects from the planning phase through completion, ensuring compliance with approved schedules and managing risks.
  • Project Quality Management ensuring adherence to our QA/QC Program and using designated software for QA/QC reviews.
  • Development of technically accurate, complete Fire Protection and Fire Alarm documents that adhere to all code requirements and engineering standards.
  • Independently analyze and develop conceptual, working, and detailed design of Fire Protection and Fire Alarm systems for new and existing facilities.
  • Coordinate and perform site surveys, submittal reviews, inspections, respond to RFIs, and generate punch lists.
  • Ensure safety through risk assessments, identification, and avoidance and keeping project reporting systems current.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, technical resources, external consultants, clients/owners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge in FLS design related to water-based fire protection and fire alarm systems including familiarity with NFPA codes and model building codes.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite, and hydraulic fire protection modeling software.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with 10 years’ experience in fire protection and Professional Engineering (PE) licensure required.
  • Additional certifications such as CFPS, NICET preferred.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the future growth and expansion of FLS practice.
  • Participate in recruitment, business development, and local FLS related industry events.
  • Provide technical mentorship to less experienced staff and support ongoing development of standard documentation and processes.
