Senior Manager, Engineering – Data Center Power Solutions
Salary: $160,000 – $190,000 base + bonus and benefits Reports to: Director, Engineering Location: [Location / hybrid – to confirm]
About the company
Our client is a well-capitalised sustainable infrastructure investment and operating platform that builds, owns and operates power solutions for data centers and other large-load customers. With a fast-growing portfolio of generation, storage, grid and hybrid projects, they are expanding their engineering team to deliver reliable, scalable on-site power at pace.
The role
As Senior Manager, Engineering, you will be a key technical lead on the company's growing portfolio of off-grid natural gas generation projects integrated with battery energy storage systems (BESS). Working closely with the Director of Engineering, you will drive development-phase engineering through Notice to Proceed, assess technical feasibility and risk, and help build the standards and processes that allow projects to be designed and delivered consistently at scale. You will stay involved into construction and commissioning to make sure designs carry cleanly into delivery and long-term operations.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys combining project-level technical depth with cross-functional work alongside commercial, development and investment teams.
Key responsibilities
Development engineering and technical risk
• Lead development-phase engineering for data center on-site power projects through Notice to Proceed, and provide technical continuity to Project Delivery through construction, commissioning and Commercial Operation
• Evaluate technical feasibility and risk for proposed customer solutions and new investment opportunities
• Support early-stage technical diligence alongside development, commercial and investment teams
• Assess islanded, behind-the-meter projects while designing for future grid connection
• Identify and mitigate technical and execution risks before they affect schedule, cost or performance
Commercial and procurement support
• Review EPC/EPCM agreements, OEM supply contracts and technical schedules from an engineering risk and execution perspective
• Provide technical input to procurement activities, equipment evaluations and contract negotiations
• Support PPA and tolling agreement negotiations with technical input
• Act as a technical interface between data center partner engineering teams and tenant engineering teams
Engineering execution and standards
• Guide engineering execution across multiple concurrent projects at different stages of development and delivery
• Help develop and roll out large-load design standards, specifications, procedures and design details across the portfolio, working with Project Delivery and Asset Management
• Create and review critical engineering deliverables, including P&IDs, single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, equipment datasheets, civil and structural designs, control narratives and cause-and-effect matrices
• Coordinate engineering interfaces with owner's engineers, EPC/EPCM contractors, OEMs, utilities and technology providers, as well as internal Development, Origination, Procurement and Project Management teams
• Manage external engineering firms delivering project engineering scope
• Track and report on engineering scopes, resource forecasts, budgets and change management
• Support commissioning and start-up with technical guidance, design clarifications and issue resolution
• Look for ways to improve engineering efficiency and reduce project risk
About you
• 5-8+ years of engineering experience on power generation projects, including reciprocating engines, gas turbines, fuel cells and/or energy storage
• Experience designing and delivering utility-scale or large-load power projects
• Strong working knowledge of EPC and design-build delivery models, including owner-furnished equipment, utility interfaces and owner's engineer structures
• Hands-on experience producing and reviewing core engineering deliverables (SLDs, P&IDs, GAs, control narratives)
• Able to balance innovation with standardisation and execution discipline
• Comfortable working across commercial, development and investment teams
• A clear communicator who can turn technical complexity into practical business insight
• PE licence and data center or behind-the-meter / islanded power experience are a plus
What's on offer
• Base salary of $160,000 – $190,000, plus bonus and comprehensive benefits
• The chance to shape engineering standards on a high-growth data center power platform
• Exposure to senior leadership, investment and commercial decision-making
• A clear growth path within an expanding engineering function
