Wastewater / UPW Operations Supervisor


Location: Tualatin, OR

Schedule: Full-time, onsite, 40 hours per week with on-call availability


Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced Wastewater / Ultrapure Water (UPW) Operations Supervisor to oversee onsite water and wastewater operations supporting a leading advanced manufacturing facility.


The Supervisor will lead a team of Operations Technicians and be responsible for the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of ultrapure water, industrial wastewater, reclaim water, and associated utility systems. This role will combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, troubleshooting, maintenance coordination, safety oversight, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Supervise and support onsite Water/Wastewater Operations Technicians.

Oversee operation and monitoring of UPW production systems, including reverse osmosis, UV disinfection, ion exchange, and advanced filtration.


Support operation of industrial wastewater and water reclaim systems.

Assign daily work, prioritize maintenance activities, and ensure appropriate shift and on-call coverage.

Monitor plant performance and respond to alarms, equipment failures, and process excursions.

Lead troubleshooting and corrective-action activities to maintain system reliability and uptime.


Oversee preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair of pumps, valves, instrumentation, membranes, chemical systems, and process equipment.


Ensure accurate water-quality sampling and analysis, including conductivity, TOC, silica, metals, and other process indicators.

Maintain compliance with environmental, safety, and operational procedures.

Ensure adherence to LOTO, chemical handling, hazardous-material, and job-safety requirements.

Coordinate startup, shutdown, and emergency operating procedures.


Develop, maintain, and improve SOPs, maintenance procedures, operational documentation, and training materials.

Maintain operational logs, process data, maintenance records, spare-parts inventories, and compliance documentation.

Train, mentor, and develop technicians.

Coordinate with engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and facility stakeholders.

Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, water quality, efficiency, sustainability, and water reuse.

Support continuous 24/7 facility operations and participate in on-call response as required.


Qualifications:


High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree in a technical, water, environmental, or STEM-related field preferred.


5+ years of experience in industrial water, wastewater, UPW, facilities utilities, or process operations.

Previous supervisory, lead operator, senior technician, or team-lead experience preferred.


Experience supporting semiconductor, electronics, pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or other critical industrial facilities strongly preferred.


Strong knowledge of RO, ion exchange, filtration, UPW production, industrial wastewater treatment, and water chemistry.

Hands-on experience troubleshooting pumps, valves, instrumentation, controls, chemical feed systems, and mechanical equipment.

Experience with water-quality instrumentation, process monitoring systems, and basic PLC/HMI troubleshooting.

Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.

Experience with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS systems preferred.

Strong knowledge of industrial safety procedures including LOTO, chemical safety, hazardous-material handling, and job hazard analysis.


Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and make operational decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Additional Requirements

Ability to work onsite in Tualatin, OR.


Flexibility to support overtime, weekends, and emergency response as required.

Must be available for on-call support for a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
