A leading employee-owned environmental engineering and consulting firm is looking to appoint a Supervising Solid Waste Engineer / Project Manager to support the continued growth of its environmental engineering practice in Southern California.
This is a senior-level opportunity for an experienced California solid waste and remediation professional who combines strong technical engineering expertise with project leadership, client management and business development capabilities.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for complex solid waste and environmental remediation projects while helping expand the firm's presence and client base across Southern California.
The Role
You will lead multidisciplinary engineering projects from initial scoping and proposal development through design, construction and ongoing operations. The position will also play an important role in developing client relationships, mentoring technical staff and growing the firm's solid waste engineering capabilities.
Key responsibilities will include:
Lead complex solid waste engineering and environmental remediation projects from inception through completion.
Provide technical leadership and senior-level review of engineering designs, reports, drawings and specifications.
Oversee projects involving landfill gas collection and control systems, landfill closure and capping systems, geosynthetics, soil vapor extraction systems and vapor intrusion mitigation systems.
Provide senior oversight during construction, including construction quality assurance and contractor RFIs/submittals.
Manage project scope, schedule, budgets, quality and technical risk.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, contractors and technical partners.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, scientists and project staff.
Support proposals, client interviews, contract negotiations and strategic pursuits.
Identify and develop new business opportunities across Southern California.
Help expand the firm's solid waste engineering client base and technical capabilities.
Collaborate with environmental, engineering and water resources teams across the wider organization.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
12+ years of environmental, remediation and/or solid waste engineering experience, with significant experience in California.
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
California Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain California licensure within 12 months.
Strong experience within environmental or engineering consulting.
Technical knowledge of areas such as:
Solid waste and landfill engineering
Landfill gas systems
Landfill closure and geosynthetic cap systems
Soil vapor extraction
Vapor intrusion mitigation
Environmental remediation design
Construction quality assurance
Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, work plans and technical reports.
Proven project and client management capabilities.
Demonstrated experience developing client relationships and generating new consulting work.
Experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
Strong commercial understanding, including proposals, budgets, schedules and project financial performance.
Candidates currently working at Senior Project Manager, Principal Engineer, Associate, Practice Leader or similar level within an environmental or solid waste consulting business are particularly encouraged to apply.
Compensation & Benefits
The position offers a base salary of $180,000–$200,000, depending on experience, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
