Vice President / Director of Energy Strategy – Renewables & Hyperscale Data Centers

About the Role:
We are seeking a seasoned Energy Executive to lead renewable energy procurement and strategy for a fast-growing, hyperscale-focused data center platform. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in Data Center renewable energy markets, PPAs, and sustainability strategy, coupled with a strong understanding of hyperscale data center energy demands and operational requirements.
This is a critical, high-impact leadership role where you’ll work directly with internal stakeholders, utilities, energy developers, and hyperscale customers to deliver competitive, carbon-free energy solutions at scale.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of long-term energy strategies aligned with corporate sustainability and cost objectives.
Originate and negotiate renewable Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Virtual PPAs (VPPAs), and green tariff structures.
Interface with hyperscale customers (AWS, Google, Microsoft, Meta, etc.) on joint energy planning, renewable sourcing, and ESG reporting alignment.
Build strong relationships with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and energy developers to source clean, reliable, and scalable energy solutions for current and future data center campuses.
Evaluate emerging technologies (battery storage, hydrogen, etc.) and regulatory trends impacting energy supply and sustainability targets.
Ensure compliance with evolving energy and environmental regulations across key markets.
Collaborate cross-functionally with site selection, development, operations, and sustainability teams.
Required Skills & Experience:
10–15+ years of experience in energy strategy, renewable procurement, or sustainability leadership roles.
Direct experience supporting or working within hyperscale data center environments.
Strong understanding of renewables contracting, grid interconnection, and wholesale energy markets in North America.
Proven track record negotiating complex energy deals (PPAs, green tariffs, RECs) with both utilities and corporate buyers.
Strong relationships with energy developers, utilities, and regulatory stakeholders.
Deep knowledge of ESG frameworks, carbon accounting, and the energy needs of large-scale digital infrastructure platforms.
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in energy, sustainability, engineering, or related field preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with hyperscale cloud providers on joint energy and sustainability initiatives.
Familiarity with energy modeling tools and market forecasting platforms.
Strong executive presence and ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders at the highest levels.
